This story seems to be based on a true story. It is a very interesting story that I enjoyed very much. I do feel sad that is had a happy ending. I don't think the true story did.

I liked this book a lot and will read her other novel, "Learning to Breathe." The story is told in the first person by its main characters.

I felt part of the characters' family in the lowlands of South Carolina. Family issues and mental health always interest me.  Amazon

The author is from Connecticut and went to France exploring various chateaux and manor houses, which are no longer estates but hostels. She also explored guest houses off the beaten path, describing them as "havens from the hustle." The book had good photos.  SUNCAT

The following is a quotation from book:
"The idea that some lives matter less is the root of all that is wrong with the world."

Understanding disease is discussed with lots of information, with mention to African diseases. Africa's population is 682 million people, and pharmaceutical companies do not always give away drugs. These developing countries just cannot afford them.  SUNCAT
